DAY 1: Nairobi to Tsavo West
Meals: Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Ngulia Safari Lodge
Your African safari begins with a morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After a brief safari orientation, depart in a private 4x4 Land Cruiser and journey southeast toward Tsavo West National Park, one of the largest and most diverse parks in Kenya.
Enjoy the changing landscapes along the way—from fertile farmlands to dry scrubland—before entering Tsavo West through the Mtito Andei Gate. Once inside the park, your game viewing begins. Look out for elephants dusting themselves in the red soil, herds of buffalo, giraffes browsing acacia trees, and if lucky, lions or leopards resting in the shade.
Arrive at Ngulia Safari Lodge in time for lunch and check-in. Nestled near the Rhino Sanctuary and framed by the Ngulia Hills, the lodge offers breathtaking views and a rustic charm that connects you with nature. After a short rest, head out on an evening game drive to discover more of Tsavo’s wildlife.
Return to the lodge for dinner and a peaceful night in the wild.
DAY 2: Full Day in Tsavo West – Game Drives, Mzima Springs & Birdwatching
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Ngulia Safari Lodge
Wake up to the sounds of the bush and enjoy breakfast with sweeping views of the park. Today is dedicated to exploring Tsavo West in depth. With your guide, set out for morning and afternoon game drives through a variety of habitats-lava flows, savannah, woodlands, and swamps-each supporting unique wildlife.
A highlight of the day is a visit to Mzima Springs, a crystal-clear oasis fed by underground streams from the Chyulu Hills. Here, you may see hippos wallowing in the water, crocodiles basking on the banks, and monkeys swinging in the trees. The underwater viewing chamber offers a rare glimpse into the aquatic world.
Birdwatchers will find this area especially rewarding, with over 600 bird species recorded in the park, including kingfishers, hornbills, and weavers. This makes Tsavo a top destination for birdwatching in Kenya.
Return to the lodge for lunch or opt for a picnic in the wild. In the afternoon, continue your game drive in search of the Big Five and capture golden-hour moments perfect for photography safaris. Back at the lodge, enjoy dinner and perhaps spot nocturnal animals drawn to the floodlit waterhole.
