DAY 1: Nairobi to Tsavo West
Meals: Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge
Your safari adventure begins with a morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. After a short safari briefing, set off in your private 4x4 Land Cruiser, driving southeast toward Tsavo West National Park.
As you pass through the rolling hills of the Chyulu Range and open savannah, watch the landscapes shift into rugged lava fields and thick bushland. Arrive at Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge in time for lunch and check-in. Nested beneath the backdrop of volcanic hills and facing its own waterhole, this lodge offers incredible wildlife viewing without leaving your room.
Later in the afternoon, head out for your first game drive. Tsavo West is known for its red-dust elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and a variety of antelope. You may also spot predators like lions and leopards, especially near the riverine forests.
Return to the lodge for a hearty dinner and unwind as you listen to the distant calls of the wild.
DAY 2: Tsavo West – Full Day Safari, Mzima Springs and Rhino Sanctuary
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Stay: Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge
After breakfast, venture out for a full-day safari exploring the highlights of Tsavo West. Begin with a visit to the famous Mzima Springs, a lush oasis fed by underground streams from the Chyulu Hills. Walk along the trails and observe hippos and crocodiles from a unique underwater viewing chamber.
Continue your game drive across the Shetani lava flows, a dramatic reminder of the area’s volcanic past. The diverse terrain-open plains, rocky ridges, and dense thickets-provides habitats for an impressive variety of wildlife. Keep an eye out for the Big Five and other species such as elands, hyenas, and lesser kudu.
In the afternoon, visit the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, one of the last strongholds for the endangered black rhino. Though sightings require patience, the experience of tracking this rare animal adds great value to your Kenya safari experience.
Return to the lodge in the evening and relax on the terrace, watching animals gather at the waterhole as the sun sets over the plains.
DAY 3: Tsavo West to Nairobi –Departure
Meals: Breakfast | Optional: Day Room and Lunch in Nairobi
After an early breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning at the lodge or take a short game drive for any final wildlife sightings. The soft morning light is perfect for photography safaris, especially with Kilimanjaro sometimes visible on the horizon.
